Birdwatching in the Otways
Local Birdwatching Locations
On our property we have so far seen the following birds: Silvereyes, Eastern Spinebills, Kookaburras, Thornbills, King Parrots, Crimson Rosellas, Galahs, Bower birds, New Holland Honeyeaters, Little Corellas, Bristlebirds, Striated Pardalotes, White Throated Treecreepers, Grey Fantail, Willy Wagtail, and Golden Whistlers.
Down near the West Barwon Reservoir there is a reserve called Len Sprague Reserve. Wandering along that road and around the walking paths, you will often spot a variety of little birds. The ones we have seen are Superb Fairy Wrens, Swallows, Scarlet Robin, Flame Robin, Red Browed Finch, and the Eastern Yellow Robin.
Books and Tours
In each of the suites there is a copy of the Colac Otway Birds book by Adam Fry and Ian Davies. It's possible to book bird tours with Colac Birder by visiting their website. They conduct tours in Colac and Apollo Bay and other areas. We also host packaged birding tours from time to time. Please check out Upcoming Retreats and Tours.
Bird Photography
There is an abundance of birds in the Otway Ranges. These photos are all taken by the talented Amber O'Meara from Great Ocean Photography. She has kindly given permission for us to display her work so our guests can see the gorgeous wildlife living between Colac and the Great Ocean Road.
